The Opportunity

Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University seeks qualified candidates for Associate Director of HLA/Immunogenetics Laboratory.

The HLA/Immunogenetics laboratory supports the Lung (during the last several years, ranked number one in the US), Heart, Liver, Kidney, and Pancreas transplant programs at Temple University Hospital (TUH) and the Bone Marrow transplant program at Jeanes Hospital. The laboratory also provides HLA disease and hypersensitivity associations and platelet transfusion support at TUH, Jeanes, and Fox Chase Cancer Center.

The laboratory is a close-knit team staffed by ten technologists, a sample processing technologist, a manager, a Director, and an Associate Director, who work together to provide HLA testing, including 24/7 stat on-call coverage.  They perform high- and low-resolution HLA molecular typing, HLA antibody identification, and virtual and cell-prospective and retrospective Flow T and B cell crossmatches.  They also collaborate to monitor the HLA antibody status of patients, pre- and post-transplant, and provide an estimate of the risk of antibody-mediated rejection for organ offers to sensitized and transplanted patients.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Successful applicants must possess an M.D. or Ph.D., be ASHI approved as an HLA Director or finish an ASHI approved HLA training by July 2024 and plan to pass the ABHI board and become an ASHI approved HLA Director. Certification as a laboratory director by the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) with work experience is highly desirable.  Unrestricted PA licensure is also required for qualified M.D.
