POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Standardized Patient Educator to join our team of professionals.

Duties include:

  • Liaises with the Herbert Wertheim Human Resources (HWCOM HR) team regarding the recruitment process of all Standardized Patients (SP). Supervises SPs and creates onboarding orientation and training.
  • Develops and oversees comprehensive training programs for standardized patients (SPs), ensuring they are thoroughly prepared to accurately portray assigned roles, scenarios, medical histories, physical exams, symptoms, and behaviors. Responsible for crafting and managing detailed trainings that cover all aspects of case portrayal and encompasses educating SPs on understanding case materials and the operational aspects of educational and assessment activities.
  • Assists with developing, updating, and implementing SP procedures. Advises important issues facing the SP Program, to include recommending solutions and procedures to improve the operations or increase efficiency.
  • Programs and prepare systems used in support of teaching and assessment with SPs, including data collection software, AV system (EMS), and space logistics.
  • Develops and implement methods to assess SP performance and ensure quality control in SP Program, training and performance. Provides ongoing feedback to SPs and remediates performance based on feedback. Collects and analyzes data for annual SP evaluations.
  • Assists with SP utilization tracking, forecasting, and monitoring SP budget. Assist with procurement requests and purchases. Prepares quotes, invoices, and billing for SP services in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Maintains accurate records of simulated patient activities, participant feedback, and assessment outcomes, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry standards and trends. Communicate best practices and network with other health professional schools on SP methodology and best practices.
  • Assists with set up and breakdown of simulation activities, tours and other events as needed as well as assumes the role of a SP as needed.
  • Assists with grants and research initiatives. Collaborates on research projects, collects, and analyzes data, and disseminates findings through presentations and publications, contributing valuable insights to the broader academic community.
  • Collaborates with faculty and simulation experts to develop and maintain a comprehensive database of cases, scripts, and assessment tools, ensuring scenarios are both realistic and aligned with educational objectives. Coordinates with faculty and course directors to prioritize activities, optimize scheduling, and uphold best practices in simulation-based education, ensuring efficient use of resources and effective learning outcomes.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
  • Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of appropriate experience, or Master's degree and one (1) year of appropriate experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Standardized Patient Educator Certification within a year of employment.
